NT 022 Building a for profit social enterprise

Social Entrepreneurship is a buzzword today, and keeping up with changing demands of time, more and more VCs & investors, today are asking for Social Return on Investments(SROI) projections apart from Return on Investments(ROI) projections. Several professional philanthropic funds today are fed-up of run-of-the-mill NGOs and are looking for more options to invest upon. In recent history, several philanthropists as well as companies have started patronizing Social Entrepreneurs who are equipped with a proper business plan that would create a considerable impact on the society but would not be dependent upon external funding for perpetuity. Today, we will take a close look at a self-sustainable social enterprise with our revered speaker Dr. Medha Purao Samant who will tell us about how to build a for-profit Social Enterprise. Speaker : Dr. Medha Purao Samant Armed with 13 years of experience as a banker, Dr. Medha Purao Samant decided to step out of the secure environs of her workplace and instead devote her life to the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden slum women. Today, with her hard work, Dr. Samant has been instrumental in building Annapurna Pariwar, a group of 6 sister organizations working in 200 slum pockets of Pune and Mumbai.

Annapurna Pariwar, a non-profit NGO runs one of the most benevolent microfinance programs in the country for the last 35 years. In addition to microfinance, Annapurna also provides micro insurance and other support services like day care centers for slum children, vocational and job placement facilities for the poor and educational sponsorships to children of poor single mothers.
